Everlasting Blessing

For our momentary light affliction is producing for us an absolutely incomparable eternal weight of glory

2 Corinthians 4:17 (CSB)

The apostle knew that this world would present many trials and difficulties. He believed that these moments were extremely small compared to the reality of eternity awaiting the believer. The apostle wished that believers would navigate this world and its various experiences, recognizing that the best is yet to come, regardless of life's highs or lows, because believers hold the promise of eternal blessing. As followers of Christ, we embrace this promise. We look to the assurance of everlasting blessing ahead as motivation to remain faithful through life's peaks and valleys.

The Reality of Momentary Affliction. We face various moments of affliction. Some of this affliction is major, while at other times these moments are minor. No matter the severity of the affliction, these moments aid in preparing us to experience the fullness of the promised blessing for the child of God. No one is exempt from these times of struggle. James, the half-brother of Jesus, declared that we should count it all joy when we face trials and temptations. The reality is that you and I will face momentary affliction, but these moments are temporary because the promised blessing is eternal.

The Preparation From Momentary Affliction. Pain and suffering shout into our lives. Moments of affliction speak to us, helping us recognize areas that need repentance and showing us how to rely on the Lord more fully. As we grow in the Lord through these moments of affliction, we mature spiritually and are refined and prepared for heaven. It's essential to adopt the mindset that trials lead to development in the Lord. The momentary afflictions carry eternal significance.

The Truth of Everlasting Blessings. The blessings of the Lord outlast the momentary afflictions of this life. The momentary trials and struggles fade, but the promises of the Lord remain. The struggles we face set the stage for greater celebration in the promises of eternal life. What the world brings against us fades, but what the Lord has promised is eternal.
