Glorified State
For this corruptible body must be clothed with incorruptibility, and this mortal body must be clothed with immortality
1 Corinthians 15:53 (CSB)
The truth of glorification is not solely about the dwelling place of heaven but also about the perfected state we enter. This earthly, fragile, broken body is restored to that perfected state. The glorified state occurs due to the work of the Lord. We can never achieve perfection apart from the Lord, and we only receive the glorified state because of Him.
The Corruptible Body. The corruptible body is this broken body in this world. The corruptible body exists because of the fallen nature of humanity. When the fall occurred in Genesis 3, part of the punishment was the entrance of death and the reality of sickness and disease. The presence of sin causes the body to be corruptible.
Clothed With Incorruptibility. The apostle Paul states that the corruptible becomes clothed with the incorruptible. This means that the corruptible is covered and overcome by the perfect and righteous nature of the Lord. We experience the transformation from the broken to the blessed. In glorification we become clothed with perfection.
This Mortal Body. The corruptible body of this world is also a mortal body. The mortal body is limited because of the presence of sin. The demand of death by sin makes this body mortal and frail. The mortal body is plagued by the ramifications of sin and causes pain and suffering.
Clothed With Immortality. The mortal body is clothed with immortality in the moment of glorification. This truth means that in Christ, we, as followers of Christ, become clothed with eternity. This clothing occurs because we are clothed in the righteousness of Christ and not because of our own efforts of ability. The moment of glorification is a moment when that which is corruptible and mortal becomes incorruptible and immortal.
