Grow In God’s Grace
just as it has among you since the day you heard it and came to truly appreciate God’s grace. 7 You learned this from Epaphras, our dearly loved fellow servant.
Colossians 1:6b-7a (CSB)
Grace is something we experience during salvation, but our understanding of it is still basic at that point. While we first encounter its incredible nature at salvation, we continue to deepen our experience of God’s grace as we go through life. The apostle Paul urged the church in Colossae to grow in the grace they had received and to learn from those God had provided for them to learn from.
Grow by Living It Out. The apostle Paul reminded the Colossians that they received great grace at salvation. This grace acts as a catalyst, inspiring a life committed to living out that grace. The more we live according to grace, the more we grow in grace. This growth occurs as we reflect on how God’s grace impacted us in the past and experience it anew through repentance. As we do, we learn that God’s grace is more than enough, encouraging us to lean on Him more each day. The more you live out of this grace, the more your life will grasp the wonder of God’s amazing grace.
Grow through Appreciation. When we focus on God’s grace, our hearts become more grateful, and our trust in the Lord deepens. The apostle Paul urged the church in Colossae to “truly appreciate God’s grace.” He acknowledged they had already reached this understanding but encouraged them to continue living in that mindset. Appreciating God’s grace fills us with joy and gratitude for salvation, eternal life, God’s presence, and His promises for the future. Additionally, recognizing God’s grace helps us understand that our true identity and life are found solely in Christ.
Grow Through Learning. Paul praised the Colossians for their learning from Epaphras. Spiritual instruction from others fosters growth in our relationship with the Lord. As our faith develops, our capacity to understand and live out grace also increases. We grow in grace by observing fellow believers walking in grace and intentionally practicing it ourselves. When seeking to learn from others, it's crucial to exercise discernment, ensuring we learn from trusted spiritual leaders who are devoted servants of the Lord.
