The Need

How, then, can they call on him they have not believed in? And how can they believe without hearing about him? And how can they hear without a preacher? And how can they preach unless they are sent? As it is written, “How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news.”

Romans 10:14-15 (CSB)

Too often, we expect others to handle it, which seems like an unspoken motto for many. This mindset usually arises from a reluctance to accept responsibility for the task. When it comes to evangelism, believers often think someone else will share Jesus with others or that only pastors and ministers are responsible. However, the Bible clearly states that evangelism is not just for professionals but is a calling for every follower of Christ. In fact, every believer is called to practice evangelism.

Believers are called to share Christ because eternity depends on it. The apostle Paul, addressing the church in Rome, highlights the importance of witnessing about Jesus, noting that without this, people cannot hear or accept the Gospel. We are needed to proclaim the Gospel because God has appointed us as His messengers. Paul also reminds us that sharing the Gospel is a privilege and that there is beauty in being sent by the Lord and faithfully representing Christ.

Practicing evangelism involves expressing love to others through sharing Christ's love, allowing them to experience it firsthand. It demonstrates our concern for their eternal future. The apostle emphasizes that without evangelism, many will miss hearing the gospel. Our role as evangelists must never be overlooked or neglected.

Pause for a moment and think about who shared Jesus with you. That person dedicated time to the meaningful act of evangelism. They might have been a Sunday School teacher, parent, friend, or minister, but someone took the effort to tell you about Jesus. They recognized their responsibility to share Jesus because others needed to hear His message. Will you also fulfill this vital duty of evangelism and share the Gospel with someone who needs to hear it?
