The Perfect Timing of God

5 In the days of King Herod of Judea, there was a priest of Abijah’s division named Zechariah. His wife was from the daughters of Aaron, and her name was Elizabeth. 6 Both were righteous in God’s sight, living without blame according to all the commands and requirements of the Lord. 7 But they had no children because Elizabeth could not conceive, and both of them were well along in years.

Luke 1:5-7

THOUGHT

Luke 1:5-7 introduces Zechariah and Elizabeth, described as righteous and blameless before the Lord. Despite their age and childlessness—since Elizabeth had been unable to conceive—their desire for children likely waned. However, God was about to act according to His plan and timing. These verses mark the beginning of the story of Zechariah and Elizabeth welcoming a son who would become the forerunner of Jesus.

God used this period of longing for a child to ready them for His blessing at the perfect time. The Lord’s timing doesn't always match ours; His is perfect, while ours can be flawed. God’s interaction with Zechariah and Elizabeth shows that He hadn't forgotten them but was preparing them to serve Him and bring glory to His name.

REFLECTION

Have you ever felt overwhelmed, overlooked, or forgotten? Have you ever struggled to rely on the Lord during times of delay? Remember that God works in His perfect timing. He is preparing us for something greater, shaping us, teaching us to trust Him fully, and guiding us to see that He is writing a greater story for our lives.

PRAYER

Lord, help me to trust your timing. Let me hold firm to the belief that you are working all things together for the good of your children. Let me rest in your will, ways, and Word as I faithfully wait upon you to work accordingly.
