The Recurring Conviction
For I am conscious of my rebellion, and my sin is always before me. Against you–you alone–I have sinned and done this evil in your sight. So you are right when you pass sentence; you are blameless when you judge.
Psalm 51:3-4 (CSB)
Conviction serves as a vital aspect of our spiritual walk. It encourages us to seek forgiveness and reconciliation when we stray from the Lord and engage in repentance. When we grasp the truth of eternal security, we discover hope and goodness in the moments of conviction, viewing our response to it as positive.
Eternal Security and Sin. David penned Psalm 51 as he sought forgiveness for his affair with Bathsheba. We find that David recognized and took ownership of his sin. Early in Psalm 51, David declared that his sin was against the Lord and the Lord alone. David’s ability to approach the Lord with a heart of remorse stems from his trust in the eternal security provided solely by the Lord. When we experience eternal security, we approach the Lord confidently, knowing that He will not abandon His own.
Eternal Security and Repentance. Eternal security encourages repentance. When we acknowledge the truth of eternal security, we become more inclined to seek repentance because we recognize the character and goodness of the Lord. We learn to trust that the Lord treats us with grace and mercy and does not cast us out of His family. As members of the family, we pursue repentance because we wish to live in reconciliation with the Lord while trusting in eternal security, knowing that He will not abandon us.
Eternal Security And Approaching the Lord. We approach the Lord with confidence when we understand eternal security. We approach with confidence because we know that the Lord will hold us firm in His hand and not abandon us. We approach the Lord knowing that His love for us led to His work of making a path to redemption through Christ. When we have the confidence to approach the Lord because of eternal security, we know that the Lord will respond in kindness, love, compassion, and justice.
