Use the Moment

Jesus asnwered, “If you knew the gift of God, and who is saying to you, ‘Give me a drink,’ you would ask him, and he would give you living water.”

John 4:10 (CSB)

Jesus engaged the woman at the well in John 4. This event exemplifies the divine evangelistic moments that happen in everyday life. Jesus transformed an ordinary moment into an opportunity for eternal impact. Recognizing that the Great Commission calls us to make disciples “as we go," we should aim to use everyday moments to connect with people for Christ.

We need to recognize evangelistic moments. Jesus interacted with the woman at the well to guide her toward eternal life. He used the opportunity of drawing water to share the gift of living water. Jesus consistently engaged others with eternity in mind. Following His example, we should develop a lifestyle attentive to the evangelistic moments that surround us. To do this, we must stay alert to God’s guidance in opening opportunities in our lives.

We must recognize divine appointments. Jesus anticipated the woman's arrival at the well, turning this encounter into a divine moment designed for her to hear and accept Christ's message. Such divine moments happen in our lives—although we may not always recognize or understand them—they serve to position us within God's purpose. These opportunities allow us to share the Gospel and grow in faithfulness. Divine appointments occur as God provides chances for His followers to act in faith and for others to respond to His call.

We must prioritize sharing the Gospel. When we fail to seize evangelistic moments in life, it implies that we don't view eternity as significant. Neglect often arises from various obstacles we allow to develop. These hurdles typically stem from verbal declarations of loving Jesus and others more than ourselves, yet our actions reveal a greater love for self. Ignoring the opportunity to share the Gospel shows we're living far from the Lord’s expectations. Failing to share in the moment indicates a disregard for where someone might spend eternity.

Evangelistic opportunities are all around us. Every day provides moments to demonstrate Christ and share His love. The capacity to recognize divine appointments comes from our dedication to serving the Lord as ambassadors of His kingdom.
