Come and See

“Come, and see the man who told me everything I ever did. Could this be the Messiah?” They left the town and made their way to him.

John 4:29-30 (CSB)

Earlier, we examined the woman at the well and Jesus' divine encounter with her. Returning to John 4, we observe the influence of a life transformed by the Lord. Following her meeting with Jesus, she shared her experience with everyone, inviting them to see Him. Her actions exemplify what it means to be a follower of Christ. We too should act and invite others to come and see Jesus, who has transformed our lives.

We need to encourage others to come and see Jesus. The woman went and shared with everyone she knew about Jesus, whom she had just met. Her focus was on the transformation she experienced. She understood that people might question her because of her past and knew why she was at the well at an unusual time. Despite this, she not only told them about Jesus but also invited them to come and experience Him firsthand. She challenged them to meet Jesus. Those who have known us for any length of time will be aware of our past mistakes, but this should not prevent us from sharing Jesus. Instead, it should motivate us to tell others about Christ and invite them to see what only He can do.

We need to encourage others to embrace a transformed life. The woman’s life was so profoundly changed that she longed for others to share in the freedom and joy she found. She chose not to keep this transformation secret but publicly declared her faith in Jesus. Interestingly, Jesus invites us to take a stand for Him, and in return, He will stand up for us. The woman at the well’s change was so significant that she wanted others to experience the same. When we genuinely encounter Christ, we should have a desire for others’ salvation. We should wish for others to know the freedom and hope that come from Jesus.

We should warmly invite others so they can experience what we have. Our love for people is evident when we share the love of Christ. As followers of Jesus, we must love others and be passionate about them encountering Him as Lord and Savior. A transformed life desires others to experience that same transformation. We should not keep salvation to ourselves; instead, we should be zealous for others to know Jesus. The woman at the well was unconcerned with others' opinions; her main goal was for others to share in her experience with Jesus.
