Faith Fuels Action

39 In those days Mary set out and hurried to a town in the hill country of Judah 40 where she entered Zechariah’s house and greeted Elizabeth. 41 When Elizabeth heard Mary’s greeting, the baby leaped inside her, and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit.

Luke 1:39-41

THOUGHT

Mary doesn't hide when she hears God's call; instead, she acts quickly and goes to see Elizabeth. When she arrives, she greets Elizabeth, causing the child in Elizabeth to leap with joy. This joy is a result of Mary's faithfulness. Elizabeth recognizes that this joyful response happened because Mary accepted and obeyed God's message to her.

These verses emphasize the necessity of keeping faith active to prevent it from becoming passive. When Mary quickly goes to visit Elizabeth, she shows how faith drives our actions. Mary illustrates that genuine faith naturally results in movement and obedience. She heard God's voice through faith, and she responded in obedience by acting on His call. Through both faith and obedience, Mary remained aligned with God’s will.

REFLECTION

We must avoid passive reactions to the Lord’s call and recognize its urgency by responding actively. Quick obedience and ongoing faithfulness are key to maintaining an active response. Living in faith and obeying God aligns our lives with His will and allows us to showcase His goodness, grace, and joy to others. The engagement with others serves as a reminder of how God is act work in our lives and using us to impact the lives of others for the sake of God’s kingdom.

PRAYER

Lord, keep my faith active and not passive. Urge me to live with active faith, listening to Your Word and responding promptly and intentionally. Guide my steps through Your strength and make me obedient to Your direction. Amen.
