Revelation of Wisdom
3 In him are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.
Colossians 2:3 (CSB)
Wisdom and knowledge are two distinct but interconnected truths. Knowledge involves collecting information and facts through learning, experience, and observation. Wisdom is the practical use of that knowledge and is demonstrated through discernment and living rightly. The apostle Paul understood that all knowledge and wisdom originate from the Lord alone.
Seek the Lord for Wisdom and Knowledge. Seek wisdom and knowledge from the Lord, as the apostle Paul did. Paul recognized that the true source of wisdom and understanding is the Lord. In his youth, he studied Jewish faith, traditions, and culture, but still felt a constant emptiness despite worldly pursuits. After converting, Paul gained a deeper, more genuine wisdom that surpassed worldly knowledge, always seeking the Lord for true understanding. Similarly, although the world offers many lessons and ideas, real and authentic wisdom can only be found by seeking the Lord.
Seek Guidance Through Prayer. When pursuing wisdom from the Lord, it's essential to dedicate time to communicate with Him. This involves both speaking to and listening to the Lord, primarily through prayer. Such communication offers a chance to seek His guidance in different life situations. Prayer is vital for acquiring true knowledge and wisdom from the Lord.
Seek Guidance Through His Word. The Bible shows how God’s wisdom and knowledge influence the lives of believers. It reveals God’s wisdom and offers examples of how spiritual knowledge and wisdom operate in the lives of His followers. To grow in true wisdom and understanding, we must make an effort to learn the Word of God. Doing so requires intentional dedication and a willingness to engage with Scripture.
Seek Through Experience. Walking with Jesus, we gather insight into living by His wisdom and understanding. Our experiences teach us and strengthen our reliance on the Lord. As we remain faithful and witness God's faithfulness, our understanding of His nature deepens, strengthening our trust in Him. These journeys foster a profound understanding of wisdom and knowledge in our lives.
