See God’s Salvation

8 Simeon took him up in his arms, praised God, and said,

29 Now, Master,
you can dismiss your servant in peace,
as you promised.
30 For my eyes have seen your salvation.
31 You have prepared it
in the presence of all peoples—
32 a light for revelation to the Gentiles
and glory to your people Israel.

Luke 2:28-32

THOUGHT

As Simeon held Jesus in his arms, he broke into praise, saying, “For my eyes have seen your salvation.” This moment highlights the reaction of someone who genuinely engages with Jesus. Simeon did not focus on the Warrior, Ruler, or Miracle Worker Messiah; instead, he saw the Messiah as a child. His faith went beyond physical sight, recognizing that this Messiah came to fulfill God’s prophecy and to be the Savior of the world.

These verses show that salvation does not come from trying to improve ourselves. Instead, redemption is only through Jesus. The baby in Simeon’s arms is the light shining in darkness and offers true, eternal hope to everyone who calls on His name. They challenge us to look beyond temptation and seek reconciliation with God through circumstances, events, or possessions. These verses reveal that we can “see God’s salvation” and that salvation is only available through Christ.

REFLECTION

We need to recognize that salvation is only possible through faith in Jesus Christ. Christ is the perfect, promised gift — a holy, flawless, and unblemished sacrifice. When we live by faith, we are able to see the Lord working in even the tiniest moments and through the most humble individuals.

PRAYER

Lord, allow me to see Your salvation at work in my life. Help me to trust You for everything I need in life. Protect me from becoming unfocused on You and missing the opportunity to trust You and experience Your faithfulness in my life. Amen.
