God Reveals His Plan

25 There was a man in Jerusalem whose name was Simeon. This man was righteous and devout, looking forward to Israel’s consolation, and the Holy Spirit was on him. 26 It had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he would not see death before he saw the Lord’s Messiah. 27 Guided by the Spirit, he entered the temple. Luke 2:25-27

THOUGHT

When Mary and Joseph brought Jesus for the dedication and circumcision, the Bible introduces Simeon into the Christmas story. Simeon, an elderly man with a lively faith, is described as righteous and devout. He patiently waited for the coming of the Messiah, fulfilling God's prophecy to him that he would see the Messiah before dying. Guided by the Lord, Simeon goes to the temple, where he meets Joseph, Mary, and the Messiah.

These verses remind us that God delights in revealing His plans to those who walk with Him in faith. Simeon demonstrates the importance of waiting on the Lord and not trying to force His hand. He lived with faithfulness and obedience, and as a result, the Lord granted Simeon the blessing of seeing the Messiah and experiencing the fulfilled promise of the Lord.

REFLECTION

This passage reminds us of the importance of waiting on the Lord and trusting Him to unveil and execute His plans in His perfect timing. We should seek to follow the Holy Spirit's guidance step-by-step and be encouraged to live faithfully, knowing that obedience to the Lord puts us in a position to witness His work in our lives.

PRAYER

Lord, strengthen my heart to stay near You. Help me listen to Your voice as You guide my steps. Please keep me faithful to Your plans for my life and obedient to Your will, way, and Word. Amen.
