God’s Big Plan
29 But she was deeply troubled by this statement, wondering what kind of greeting this could be. 30 Then the angel told her, “Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. 31 Now listen: You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you will name him Jesus. 32 He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High, and the Lord God will give him the throne of his father David. 33 He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and his kingdom will have no end.”
Luke 1:29-33
THOUGHT
As Mary hears from Gabriel, she is deeply troubled by the greeting. She stands unsure of what to say and the message she received. Mary was an ordinary Jewish young woman from a small, unknown town. Nothing about her set her apart from others. However, God saw something greater in her. He recognized her heart and revealed her role in His plan to transform the world and provide reconciliation. She was told she would give birth to a son, whom she would name Jesus.
These verses illustrate how God operates. He delivered the message to Mary because He does not execute His plans through human standards, but often works through the most humble and commonplace settings. The Lord values availability over ability and looks at the condition of the heart rather than worldly stature. Choosing Mary from an ordinary background, God was weaving a greater story that extended beyond her immediate moment, place, and time.
REFLECTION
We should aim to take part in God’s larger plan. He involves us in our everyday roles to fulfill His extraordinary purposes. It’s important to remember that when God’s plans seem too overwhelming, it is He who supplies what we need and ensures His plans succeed. We ought to seek to be in positions where we can be used by God, finding joy and honor in serving Him and contributing to His magnificent plan.
PRAYER
Lord, please make me ready and willing to serve You. Thank you for letting me be part of Your grand plan. Help me to walk by faith when I cannot see the whole picture, and guide my steps with trust. Amen.
