Obedience Requires Faith

38 “See, I am the Lord’s servant,” said Mary. “May it happen to me as you have said.” Then the angel left her.

Luke 1:38

THOUGHT

Mary finds herself at a decisive crossroads, having received a message from the Lord and feeling uncertain and doubtful. This point in her journey is a moment of choice: either surrender to God's will or reject it. She chooses to move forward with full surrender and dedication to God's plan, even though she does not know all the details. Her faith is what guides her obedience.

This verse highlights the essential faith required to follow the Lord’s plan in obedience. Mary demonstrated a faith that surpassed her longing for specific answers, her worries about Joseph’s reaction, the community’s concerns, and uncertainties about what lay ahead. It underscores how vital faith in the Lord is for obedience.

REFLECTION

The crossroads Mary encountered remains relevant for us today. We face a decision about how to respond to God’s calling and guidance in our lives. Our response depends on the strength of our faith in the Lord. Our actions will reveal whether we trust the Lord, His will, and His presence. It’s important to remember that following and serving the Lord demands both faith and total trust in Him.  Is our faith strong enough to say, “See, I am the Lord’s servant, may it happen to me as you have said.”

PRAYER

Lord, grant me the faith to obey even when I lack all the answers. Help me surrender to Your plan, trust in Your goodness, and find rest in Your work within and through me. I trust You, Your perfect plan, and Your will. Amen
