The Expansion of Praise
46 And Mary said:
My soul magnifies the Lord,
47 and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior,
48 because he has looked with favor
on the humble condition of his servant.
Surely, from now on all generations
will call me blessed,
Luke 1:46-48
THOUGHT
Mary’s experience prompted her to praise. She rejoiced in the Lord, acknowledging the overflowing joy she felt. She continued to praise by declaring the Lord God as her Savior and celebrating her favored status. Her praise reflected her hope that her experience with the Lord would inspire future generations. She wanted her spiritual praise to leave a lasting legacy.
These verses depict Mary overflowing with praise as her joy spills over, guiding her into worship. Her worship focuses on God's greatness, faithfulness, and mercy. She hopes her life becomes an act of worship by serving faithfully. Her praise highlights God’s greatness and His power to use ordinary people for extraordinary purposes.
REFLECTION
We should acknowledge God's greatness, as grace only comes from Him. This awareness should inspire our worship and praise, stemming from joy. We need to regularly assess our lives to identify where we've strayed from the Lord and work to return to a state of being favored by Him. Mary’s praise encourages us to serve the Lord through our actions, service, and words.
PRAYER
Lord, help me praise You from the overflow of joy and your work in my life. Allow me to worship You by being your servant. Hear the depths of my heart and may my words, meditations, and actions bring your glory. Amen.
